The Flower that Owes Me Rent
A flower sits in my lawn
Waiting for me to mow.
Bees never come to spread its pollen
And it has given up on the life cycle.
Sometimes I hear it at night breathing heavily.
Sometimes it stares at me when I’m driving away.
I could just pluck it,
End its suffering,
Or I could sit with it,
And talk about the soil.
Winter is near,
And either way it’ll be gone.
I’ll miss it,
And it knows that.
I like to think that’s why
It hasn’t ripped off its petals.
Comic.
A group assignment where me and three other people were given a first and last sentence and had to fill in the middle with a story.
A Virginia Dogwood, circa 1999
Drawn by me on a canvas my friend found in a dumpster, then digitally edited
That time I had to be Art Director in undergrad
I draw little guys. He is one of my favorites.
A freaky TESCREAL-based cult my friends and I made because the opportunity presented itself.
My friend Greg Patterson and I alternated writing haikus for the VCU Brandcenter weekly newsletter under the pseudonym:
Shreg, Poet.
I eat too much dip
Vin diesel eats Haagen-Dazs
Super Bowl Sunday
Snow offers us gifts.
"School is out but class is in."
We chose to suffer?
This is a week late
Sorry, was contemplating
A single dewdrop
Sniff a fart pillow,
Or taste shit flavored jello?
I know what I'd pick.
Saw some bugs today
Saw some pretty blossoms too
Yay Spring & Yay Spring
I spent all weekend
Eating pollen with a spoon
I can't feel my teeth
These bitter Spring days,
I raked great piles of blossoms
And dreamt of Autumn
Sometimes days just glow
& birdsong sounds like angels
& words don't cut it
Soon we say adieu,
But for tonight promenade
In good company.
Works well with others
A pleasure to have in class
Eats too much go-gurt
Sulfur filled their lungs,
Or so I let them believe.
The gas leak was me.
Lying on a dock
Looking for a shooting star
Blink and you’ll miss it
Instant coffee dust
Coats my lungs and sinuses.
It’s somewhere else too.
I hath failed mine leg
Burning, the fire doth swell it
What I had, I lost
Taking the night off
Playing Super Smash Brothers
Laughing about memes
Notes on The Timeline:
Future is gone, Past will come
When will it be Now?
Following lampposts
Courses set by earthbound stars
Back to where we’ve been
& then you’ll see it
Stretching toward the horizon
A Mile Of Cornbread
The corn knows I’m here,
That the path could not hold me.
- Day 4 in Corn Maze
Love when we name things
That sound so benevolent
Daylight Savings Time
From under the couch,
The prodigal sock returns.
(Bombas 3:16)
Please show me a sign
& I’ll show you a symbol
& we’ll have a world
The first winter night,
Sentiments turn practical.
Hug me if you’re warm.
There’s only 5 days
Between You & on break You
Go You! (Smiley Face)
Wipe crust from each eye
Breathe in fresh polluted air
The morning commute
Drink from your bathtub
Use the biggest straw you have
Slurp Slurp Slurp Slurp Slurp
Why is the snow hard?
Glazed like artificial fruit,
Difficult to eat.
Flipping coins again
Trying to find an answer
In gravity’s grace
Life lost full color
Hope makes for itself an ark
And waits for the rain
Go to take a nap
Wake up like 3 hours later
Was that nap or sleep?
I didn’t forget
This haiku is not filler
It is meaningful
False Spring is a lie
It’s all just the time between
Spring and not yet Spring
Hospital visits
Stickiness is cleanliness
Try to get some sleep
Try to be gentle
Try to move lightly in all
Like wind through flowers
I forgive the tree
That caked my car in pollen.
I’d have done the same.
If you could say bye
To everything you have loved
There’d be no returns
Bigfoot fucked my wife.
Bigfoot fucked my wife, dammit.
Fucked my husband, too.
